Patumahoe skipper Riley Hohepa made a successful start to his professional career as he kicked a couple of conversions and a penalty on his Steelers debut.

The joint winner of the Patumahoe Player of the Year for 2019 made his first Mitre 10 Cup appearance for the province in their season-opening loss to Taranaki at Navigation Homes Stadium on Saturday.

Hohepa started the game at first-five and produced a solid display - kicking solidly and making some nice plays with the ball.

Patumahoe club teammate Mark Royal came off the bench and did nothing wrong in his time on the park while former clubman Joe Royal had an impressive game as starting hooker.
